While the NHL regular season fast approaches its halfway point, there’s another business development that concerns one of the largest Ontario sportsbooks operators.

That’s because executives from the 32-team National Hockey League announced an extension of the existing partnership between the NHL and BetMGM, allowing the New York-based sports betting and iGaming operator to remain as the pro hockey league’s official North American wagering and gaming partner.

The multi-year extension comes about a year and a half after Ontario’s legal sports betting market launched, which presented BetMGM Ontario Sportsbook a golden opportunity to enter the Canadian sports betting marketplace.

That opportunity drew BetMGM CEO Adam Greenblatt towards a partnership with the NHL, which the executive called a win-win for all involved.

“Our partnership extension with the NHL is a winner. It enables us to enhance the BetMGM product and offer our fans unforgettable experiences built around the game they love,” Greenblatt said in a release from the NHL. “The NHL is more thrilling than ever – a symphony of athleticism, teamwork, and skill on skates. We look forward to bringing our customers exceptional live experiences and delighting with new in-app content for BetMGM."

Naturally in Canada, customers at Ontario sports betting apps gravitate toward the NHL to wager on the nation’s favorite sport.

What BetMGM Ontario Sportsbook Brings To NHL

For NHL executives like Jason Jazayeri, the league’s vice president of business development, pairing with an operator like BetMGM lets both sides give fans what they want: Legal and safe ways to wager on the action and a list of year-round events that bettors can take part in and enjoy.

Both parties are also taking on problem gaming; BetMGM and the NHL are official partners of the American Gaming Association’s “Have A Game Plan. Bet Responsibly” public service campaign.

A cornerstone of legal, regulated Ontario online casinos and sports betting operators is a commitment to responsible gaming.

“We are thrilled about our partnership extension with BetMGM,” Jazayeri said in the NHL news release.  “The evolution of our partnership with BetMGM will focus on building unique and compelling fan experiences, as well as event activation and media programming all with an eye towards delivering exciting new ways for our fans to interact and engage with the sport they love.”

As the NHL regular season churns on and the Toronto Maple Leafs appear set to return to the league’s postseason, the only thing hotter than the on-ice action in the province’s largest city appears to be the NHL office’s deals away from the frozen surface.
