Octoplay, a Malta-based developer of gaming content, announced last week that it has secured a licence to offer its products in the Ontario online slots market.

In a release, the company said gaining approval from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario was part of a “strategic regulated market expansion.” Earlier in 2023, Octoplay was approved for licenses in Great Britain, Malta and Sweden.

“We have been clear about our mission to obtain a licence in every single regulated market, and this is a testament to this,” Octoplay Legal Director Martina Borg Stevens said in a statement. “To be awarded a licence from such a prestigious regulator makes us feel incredibly proud and establishes a strong foothold in the North American market, which we look forward to building upon.”

With the licence, Octoplay can now offer Ontario online casino games to operators in Canada’s most populous province. Currently, 67 authorized online casinos in Ontario are managed by 47 operators.

“Securing our Ontario licence is a major milestone in this journey, and we look forward to seeing our slots land in the lobbies of popular casino brands in Ontario for the first time,” Commercial Director Nick Vuchev said.

Octoplay Is A Fast Growing Company

Octoplay was formed just more than a year ago. Carl Ejlertsson, a former executive with Red Tiger and Evolution, is its CEO, with Vuchev, Stevens and Finance Director Nicola Vella leading the senior team. The company’s portfolio includes games developed by Penguin King, Super Hippo and Smash Games. Popular brands offered include Pearly Shores, Lolicat and Bullet Bonanza. Now Ontario online casino apps can offer the company’s games.

“Our slot games are in high demand among players in markets across the world,” Vuchev said. “It’s no surprise that operators want to stock our titles, and that’s why we are working hard to secure licences and approvals in all regulated markets.”

Last month, Octoplay announced Paddy Power and Betfair, two Flutter Entertainment brands, signed on to include its games on their sites in Great Britain.
