The nominations for the 97th Academy Awards were announced Jan. 23, 2025. Odds on the 2025 Oscars are available for all 23 categories across top Ontario sportsbooks. Presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Oscars are an annual award show celebrating the achievements of the producers, directors, actors and craftspeople behind some of the year’s best films.
Leading the pack at the 2025 Oscars with 13 total nominations is “Emilia Perez,” a Mexico-set operatic musical about a trans cartel boss who undergoes a sex-change operation. Meanwhile, scoring 10 nods apiece are “The Brutalist,” a stark drama about an immigrant architect living in post-World War 2 America, and the blockbuster adaptation of the long-running Broadway musical, “Wicked.”
Other highly recognized films at the 97th Academy Awards include the Bob Dylan biopic “A Complete Unknown” (with eight nominations), the papal election thriller “Conclave” (also eight), stripper screwball comedy “Anora” (six), a body horror social satire flick called “The Substance” (five), and “Dune: Part Two” (five), the latest adaptation of author Frank Herbert’s epic sci-fi novel.
The winners of this year’s Oscars will be announced on March during a ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California. Funnyman Conan O’Brien is set to host, and Canadians can catch the broadcast live at 8 p.m. Eastern on CTV. Until then, OntarioBets.com, your home for Ontario online casino apps, has you covered with the latest Oscar betting odds.

Leading the pack among Best Picture nominees is “Anora” at -240 American odds. These odds imply a 70.6% chance at Ontario sports betting apps that writer/director Sean Baker’s acclaimed comedy will earn the top Oscars prize. The story of a New York City stripper who falls for the immature son of a Russian oligarch, Anora premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2024, winning the prestigious Palme d’Or. More recently, Anora won the Best Theatrical Motion Picture prize at the Producers Guild of America (PGA) awards. The last four films to win the PGA have gone on to capture Best Picture at the Oscars.
Given its 13 nominations, you might think that “Emilia Perez” (+3400) should also be a frontrunner, and at one point it was. But then a series of insensitive and thoughtless tweets from the film’s lead, Karla Sofía Gascón, were unearthed (and translated from Spanish), torpedoing the film’s odds. Instead, this year’s Best Picture dark-horse is “The Brutalist” at +380 odds. This harrowing 3-1/2 hour film (which includes a 15-minute intermission) has been lauded for its ambitious scope and technical achievement – especially in light of its sub-$10 million dollar budget. These odds and all others in this story are from FanDuel Ontario Sportsbook as of Feb. 18.
Actor | Movie | Odds | Percentage Chance |
Adrien Brody | The Brutalist | -230 | 69.7% |
Timothee Chalamet | A Complete Unknown | +230 | 30.3% |
Ralph Fiennes | Conclave | +1400 | 6.7% |
Colman Domingo | Sing Sing | +3400 | 2.9% |
Sebastian Stan | The Apprentice | +4200 | 2.3% |
For much of the Oscar race, the Best Actor competition has been a tight race between Adrien Brody, the titular “brutalist” architect in The Brutalist, and Timothee Chalamet, who is nominated for his turn as Bob Dylan in the musical biopic “A Complete Unknown.” Brody is the frontrunner at -230 to take home his second Oscar. He previously won an Academy Award for “The Pianist” in 2003 at the age of 29. Interestingly, if Chalamet (+230) pulls off the upset this year, he’ll usurp Brody as the youngest performer to ever win Best Actor at the Oscars.
Also nominated, but with very little chance of winning, are Ralph Fiennes in “Conclave” (+1400), Colman Domingo in “Sing Sing” (+3400), and Sebastian Stan in “The Apprentice” (+4200). This is the third time Fiennes has been nominated, his first since “The English Patient” in 1996. This is Domingo’s second nomination in as many years. He was also nominated for “Rustin” in 2024. Stan’s first Oscar nomination, for his role as a young Donald Trump in “The Apprentice.”
Actress | Movie | Odds | Percentage Chance |
Demi Moore | The Substance | -170 | 63.0% |
Mikey Madison | Anora | +130 | 43.5% |
Fernanda Torres | I’m Still Here | +1400 | 6.7% |
Karla Sofia Gascon | Emilia Perez | +2900 | 3.3% |
Cynthia Erivo | Wicked | +3300 | 2.9% |
In terms of 2025 Oscars betting odds, Best Actress is also shaping up to be a two-person race between Demi Moore and Mikey Madison.
Moore is favoured at -170 for “The Substance.” An unexpected critical and commercial darling, the film follows Moore’s character, an aging celebrity, as she experiments with a mysterious anti-aging serum. The results are both disastrous and disgusting. Moore cemented her frontrunner status in January at the Golden Globes when she won Best Actress - Musical or Comedy over Madison. At that time, Madison’s campaign appeared to be over. But a recent win for Best Actress in a Leading Role at the U.K.’s BAFTA awards might help Madison (+130) close the gap before Oscar night.
At +1400, Fernanda Torres has a slim shot of pulling off an upset for her role in the Brazilian period drama “I’m Still Here.” Meanwhile, Gascón’s odds have slipped to +2900 following her tweeting scandal. Finally, Cynthia Erivo looks unlikely to defy gravity at the 2025 Academy Awards. At +3300 odds, her Oscar dreams for her role in “Wicked” are unlikely to take flight.
Nominee | Movie | Category |
Linda Muir | Nosferatu | Best Costume Design |
Samantha Quan | Anora | Best Picture |
Tanya LaPointe & Denis Villeneuve | Dune: Part Two | Best Picture |
Traci Loader | Nosferatu | Best Makeup & Hairstyling |
Patricia Cuccia | The Brutalist | Best Production Design |
Patrice Vermette & Shane Vieau | Dune: Part Two | Best Production Design |
David Giammarco & Paul Massey | A Complete Unknown | Best Sound |
Paul Lambert, Stephen James & Rhys Salcombe | Dune: Part Two | Best Visual Effects |
Of course, here at OntarioBets.com we are also keeping a close eye on the Canadians nominated for Oscars in 2025. Up and down the list of nominees, there is plenty of talent hailing from the Great White North.
Chief among these are a trio of producers nominated in the Best Picture category. The husband-and-wife team of Tanya LaPointe and Denis Villeneuve, both of whom got their start in Canada before going on to work on Hollywood pictures, are nominated for “Dune: Part Two.” Likewise, Vancouver-born Samantha Quan is a producer on “Anora” — which is co-produced, written, directed, and edited by her husband Sean Baker.
Nominated for four Academy Awards, the vampire period piece “Nosferatu” boasts several Canadians on its talented production team, including Craig Lathrop (nominated for Best Production Design), Linda Muir (Best Costume Design), and Traci Loader (Best Make-up and Hairstyling). Meanwhile, Canadian Patricia Cuccia is also nominated as a set decorator on “The Brutalist.”
The odds say that the Canadians most likely to leave Oscar night with a statuette are VFX artists Stephen James and Rhys Salcombe. Alongside Paul Lambert and Gerd Nefzer, James and Salcombe comprise the visual effects team for “Dune: Part Two,” which is listed at -750 to win the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.
