Just when it seemed that Canada’s long national nightmare might end, the collective Stanley Cup odds for the seven NHL teams based in Canada have been reset again.
The Edmonton Oilers won Game 1 of the 2025 Stanley Cup final in overtime, but that was as good as it got as the Oilers lost the final series to the Florida Panthers for the second year in a row, this time in six games.
With that in mind, OntarioBets.com updated our odds on which Canadian team will be the next one to lift the Stanley Cup. Keep this site bookmarked for more Ontario gaming insight.

Remember, this is not a prediction on which team will win the title in the 2025-26 season. These odds, which are exclusive to OntarioBets and not to be found at Ontario sportsbooks, are for the next team to win a title north of the border, in whichever season that might happen.
For now, Canadian teams have a hard enough time just getting past the two teams in Florida.
NHL Teams Take Cup Farther South
Hockey fans across Canada are probably unified in one thought: They are sick and tired of seeing teams to the south dominate proceedings in recent seasons. And the further south those teams are, the bigger the obstacles seem to be for NHL teams based in Canada.
Florida teams have won four of the past six Stanley Cups: The Tampa Bay Lightning in 2020 and 2021, and now the Panthers in the past two seasons. Three of those four finals featured a Canadian team, including the Oilers the past two years.
It’s enough to make NHL betting in Ontario, at least on Canadian teams for futures wagers, a frustrating experience.
Add in the Dallas Stars – who eliminated the President’s Trophy-winning Winnipeg Jets in the second round of the 2025 playoffs – and the 2023 champion Vegas Golden Knights, and it seems that Canadian teams are literally seeing the Stanley Cup recede farther south of the USA-Canada border.
Can The Edmonton Oilers Make Another Run?
The Edmonton Oilers Stanley Cup odds are already up for the 2025-26 season. They range from +650 to +850 as of June 25, depending on the operator.
Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and company came achingly close to a Cup in 2025, but once again the Panthers stood in their way. Edmonton has won five Cups – tied with the Pittsburgh Penguins for the most among any franchise that entered the league after the “Original Six” era ended in 1967 – but the most recent was in 1990.
Can the Oilers keep most of these players together, or make improvements to push the team over the line, in the 2025-26 season?
Toronto Maple Leafs Outlook
The Leafs are second on our board with a 17.4% chance of being the next Canadian team to win a Stanley Cup. That would equate to +475 odds at Ontario sports betting apps if it were available for prop wagering.
The Leafs are No. 25 in the most recent farm system rankings from The Hockey Writers website and it’s no secret that Toronto is in win-now mode. But, like Edmonton, this is a franchise with a lot of decisions to face in the next couple of months. That starts with whether they can retain high-priced forwards John Tavares and Mitch Marner – and if they do, can they afford to squeeze any more offseason acquisitions under the $95.5 million salary cap for next season?
Check out our Mitch Marner next team odds as the offseason decision-making process gets underway for teams and pending free agents alike.
Other Canadian Contenders
The Winnipeg Jets won the Presidents’ Trophy for the first time in 2024-25 and set a franchise record with 116 points. But in the playoffs, it was a familiar story as Winnipeg was ousted in the second round. The Jets 2.0 (starting when the franchise moved from Atlanta in 2011) have reached the Western Conference final only once, in 2018. We have them third on our board at +500 odds.
Next come the Ottawa Senators and Montreal Canadiens, both at +800 odds. Check out our Ottawa Senators betting guide for more insights. Both franchises are on the upswing. The Habs (ranked as the third-best prospect pool) squeaked into the playoffs as the final seed in the Eastern Conference, ending a three-year postseason drought. Ottawa had waited even longer for a playoff appearance, with this year’s berth ending a seven-year dry spell for the Senators.
The Vancouver Canucks and Calgary Flames bring up the rear. The only two Canadian teams to miss the playoffs in 2025 don’t appear to have a Cup run in their near future, though the Flames (with 96 points) came very close to a postseason spot, losing out on a tiebreaker.
In 2025-26 Stanley Cup odds at NorthStar Bets Ontario Sportsbook, the Panthers are slight favorites for a three-peat, at +750 odds. The Carolina Hurricanes and Colorado Avalanche (each +800) are next, then the Oilers (+850).
